Carlos Gets Cooked by Rice in Eastbay 7428 Shoot-Out
90045 - Restaurateur Carlos Haro just couldn’t handle the Rice, as in, #GirlDad Scott Rice, who rolled to a 67% to 33% victory in the opening round of the Eastbay 7428 Shoot-Out. It marks the biggest margin of victory in the history of the event, and moves Rice into the “Elite Eight” of the prestigious tournament. It was a surprising thrashing in what was supposed to be a close match-up, considering it was a #8 seed vs. #9 seed contest.
Haro, manager of Casablanca Restaurant in Venice, partnered with the Concern Foundation as his official charity. But Carlos never was able to motivate the membership of the Los Angeles based cancer fighting group that was founded in 1968. It was surprising that Carlos, a top athlete as a youngster who won the St. Mark Athlete of the Year Award in 1990, was unable to build a “team atmosphere”, given the strength of the charity and his respected position in the world of fine Mexican food restaurants.
Rice, on the other hand, brought years and years and years and years of sports experience to the competition. From a standout athlete in Michigan to time as a #GirlDad to his high-achieving daughters to his position as the host of the CEE ShuffleBoard Classic, Scott used his ultra-competitive drive to win with ease.
#8 seed Scott and his charity, The Friends of Westminster, now will face the #1 seed in the event, Chris “Geeter” McGee on July 18th. Not only does McGee have a catchy nickname, but as a broadcaster for the Los Angeles Lakers he will be able to mobilize the LakerNation around him. “Geeter” has partnered with the Stillpoint Family Resources of West Hills, a group that will add additional strength to the #1 seed.
Up next in the tournament is #5 seed Randy Rosenbloom, a HOF broadcaster, against the Grandson-in-law of John Wooden, #12 seed Craig Impelman. Voting begins at 12pm (PT) July 9th, concluding July 11th.
The winner of the event, which will conclude on August 7th, will receive a $1000 Eastbay gift card for their designated charity. All voting takes place on Twitter @SportsStoriesDL
